Tradisi dan Ritual Kematian di Garut: Sebuah Kajian Dialektologi

Abstract

Dialectology is a branch of linguistics specifically studying language variations in the aspects of phonology, morphology, syntax, lexicon, semantics, onomasiology, and semasiology, with pronunciation manifestation in dialects. The source of this dialectological study is written verbal language. This study aims to describe traditions and death rituals in Garut through a qualitative approach and descriptive methods. It was found that Garut community has traditions and death rituals which are in line with the variety of languages. Research data were collected online by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews with qualified informants. The results show that first, traditions and death rituals still exist in Garut, and second, there are language variations in the terms of phonetics, morphology, lexical, and onomasiology. The results of the data analysis were presented through examples relevant to the current state of traditions and death rituals.
