Peer Review Process
Artikulasi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia applies a double-anonymized peer review process. Under this model, the authors' identities are not disclosed to reviewers, and reviewers' identities are not disclosed to authors. The Editorial Office checks that files sent for review have been appropriately anonymized.
Each manuscript that passes the administrative check and editorial screening is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise who are not part of the editorial team responsible for the manuscript's decision. Reviewers are selected on the basis of subject expertise, independence, scholarly standing, and the absence of conflicts of interest that could compromise objective assessment.
Reviewers are asked to evaluate, among other aspects, the manuscript's fit with the journal's aims and scope; originality and scholarly contribution; clarity of the research problem or objectives; appropriateness of the theoretical framework; adequacy and rigor of the methodology; quality of analysis and discussion; whether conclusions are supported by evidence or argument; quality and relevance of references; and clarity of scholarly presentation.
Reviewer recommendations may be Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject. Reviewer recommendations provide scholarly advice to the editor and do not automatically determine the final outcome. The final editorial decision is made by the authorized editor based on the review reports, manuscript quality, the authors' responses to reviewers, compliance with publication ethics, and conformity with journal policies.
When two reviewer reports differ substantially, the editor may conduct an additional assessment, seek clarification from reviewers, or appoint an independent third reviewer. Manuscripts receiving a revision decision must be accompanied by an author response document explaining systematically how each reviewer and editor comment has been addressed.
For a Major Revision, the manuscript may be returned to the original reviewers or sent to another reviewer when the editor considers further external evaluation necessary. For a Minor Revision, the editor may verify the revisions unless the nature of the changes requires further reviewer assessment.
All manuscripts, review reports, correspondence, and information obtained during the editorial process are treated as confidential. Reviewers and editors must not use unpublished information, data, or ideas for personal advantage or for the benefit of another party.
Reviewers must disclose potential conflicts of interest and decline an assignment when personal, professional, academic, institutional, or other interests could compromise independent judgment. Editors must likewise recuse themselves from handling manuscripts when a conflict of interest exists.
Manuscripts authored by the Editor-in-Chief, editors, editorial board members, or individuals closely associated with the journal receive no preferential treatment. Such submissions are assigned to an independent editor with no conflict of interest, and journal-affiliated authors have no access to reviewer identities or to the decision-making process for their manuscripts.
If Artikulasi publishes a special issue or manuscripts handled by a guest editor, the same peer-review and ethical standards apply. Any exception to the journal's normal review process, if applicable, must be transparently identified in the relevant article.
Artikulasi does not guarantee manuscript acceptance, and editorial decisions are not contingent upon payment of publication fees. Decisions are based on scholarly quality, research integrity, relevance to the journal's scope, and the outcomes of editorial assessment and peer review.
Editorial Screening and Article Quality
Each submission undergoes administrative and editorial screening before it may be considered for external peer review. Editors assess conformity with the Aims & Scope, clarity of scholarly contribution, basic quality of the literature and methodology, adequacy of evidence, research integrity, clarity of the abstract, and manuscript readability. A manuscript may be returned for technical revision, declined at editorial screening (desk rejection), held for clarification, or sent for peer review. Desk-screening decisions are matters of editorial judgment and do not use a numerical score as a substitute for scholarly assessment.
Reviewer Guidelines
Reviewers are expected to assess manuscripts objectively, constructively, confidentially, and in a timely manner; avoid personal criticism; provide clear scholarly reasoning; disclose conflicts of interest; refrain from using unpublished information; not delegate a review to another person without editorial permission; and promptly inform the editor when they lack sufficient expertise or cannot complete the review within the agreed timeframe.
