An analysis of articulatory phonetic errors, digital module, pronunciation, basic level of BIPAAbstract
Pronunciation learning is one of the important components in developing second language skills. If the diction and structure of sentences are correct, but they are pronounced incorrectly, the intention to be conveyed to the public in general may not be delivered properly. If such error is not justified, students may get accustomed to incorrect pronunciation. Hence, a learning tool that helps students to practice their pronunciation skills becomes necessary. The researcher was interested in developing a digital module as a pronunciation teaching material for BIPA lesson. To compile the materials, BIPA students' utterances were first analyzed to find out common types of pronunciation mistakes made. The purpose of this research is to describe the pronunciation skill of Korean students of BIPA, the results of the articulatory phonetic error analysis over the pronunciation, and its use as teaching materials for the basic level of BIPA. The research framework was descriptive qualitative with error analysis steps and articulatory phonetics as the analytical tool. Researchers managed to find words, especially phonemes, with mispronunciation. The errors were identified by the types of errors found, namely sound changes with as many as 245 errors, consisting of phonemes [s], [ə], [r], [f], and [z], and others; sound exchange with 5 errors, including phonemes [r] with [l], and others; addition of the sound with 73 errors, consisting of phonemes [ə] and others; and 76 sound omissions, consisting of phonemes [ĥ], [h], [r], and others. The findings were then compiled for to develop teaching materials in a digital module. The module, entitled " Modul Pelafalan Bunyi Bahasa Indonesia untuk BIPA (Indonesian Sound Pronunciation Module for BIPA lessons)", provides example videos for students about how to articulate the correct sounds of the language like native speakers of Indonesian language. Videos and other features in the module have QR Codes to provide easy access anywhere and anytime. Therefore, this digital module is suitable for use in modern times and this current pandemic atmosphere.
