Author Guidelines

Welcome to ILaLiS: Indonesian Language and Literature Studies. Authors are required to prepare their manuscripts in strict accordance with the following journal guidelines:

1. General Requirements

  • Manuscript Length: The full manuscript must be between 4,000 and 7,000 words (excluding Abstract and References).

  • Format: Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx), typed in single spacing using 12pt Times New Roman font.

  • Template: Manuscripts MUST be prepared using the official ILaLiS Manuscript Template.

  • Language: Written in proper, academic Indonesian or English.

2. Manuscript Structure & Proportion

  • Title: Maximum 15 words in Indonesian/English.

  • Abstract: 200–250 words in a single paragraph, containing background, objective, method, main findings, and conclusion. Typed in 11pt Times New Roman, single-spaced, italic.

    • Indonesian Articles: Indonesian Abstract placed first, followed by English Abstract.

    • English Articles: English Abstract placed first, followed by Indonesian Abstract.

  • Keywords: 3 to 5 words/phrases, separated by semicolons, sorted alphabetically.

  • Introduction (15–20% of total length): Background, research context, literature review, and research objectives in continuous paragraphs (no subheadings).

  • Method (10–15% of total length): Research design, site/participants/documents, data collection, and data analysis. Can be written in a unified narrative or organized under subheadings (2.1, 2.2, 2.3).

  • Findings and Discussion (40–60% of total length): Detailed data analysis answering research questions, integrated with relevant and up-to-date theories and literature. Tables/Figures must be centered.

  • Conclusion: Summary and restatement of main findings in continuous paragraphs (avoid bulleted/numbered lists).

  • Acknowledgement (Optional): Funding agencies or significant contributors.

  • References: Strictly formatted in APA Style 7th Edition using reference managers (Mendeley/Zotero).

3. Citation & Reference Policy

  • Format: APA Style 7th Edition in-text citation, e.g., (Harizaputra, 2026) or (Silva & Doe, 2021). Use page numbers for verbatim quotes: (Harizaputra, 2026, p. 78).

  • Endnotes: Use endnotes instead of footnotes if necessary.

  • Currency: At least 80% of cited sources must be published within the last 5 years.

  • Source Quality: At least 80% of references must consist of peer-reviewed articles from reputable scientific journals.

4. Double-Blind Peer Review Preparation

To ensure an anonymous review process, authors MUST remove all author names, affiliations, and emails from the manuscript file prior to submission. Author details should only be entered in the metadata fields during the submission process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission is an original, unpublished work and is not currently under consideration by another journal.

  2. The manuscript is prepared using the official ILaLiS Manuscript Template in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

  3. The total word count is between 4,000 and 7,000 words (excluding Abstract and References), typed in 12pt Times New Roman with single spacing.

  4. Author names, affiliations, and email addresses have been completely removed from the manuscript file to support Double-Blind Peer Review.

  5. Abstract (200–250 words) and Keywords (3–5 keywords) are provided in both Bahasa Indonesia and English according to the journal's ordering rules.

  6. In-text citations and the reference list strictly adhere to APA Style 7th Edition, with at least 80% of sources published within the last 5 years and 80% derived from reputable journal articles.

  7. Where available, active URLs or DOIs for all cited references have been provided.

By submitting a manuscript to ILaLiS: Indonesian Language and Literature Studies, authors agree to the following copyright and licensing terms:

1. Copyright and Licensing Terms

  • Copyright Retention: Authors retain the full copyright of their published work without restrictions.

  • Right of First Publication: Authors grant ILaLiS: Indonesian Language and Literature Studies the right of first publication under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

  • Open Access Terms: Under the CC BY 4.0 license, third parties are permitted to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the published material for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that proper credit and attribution are given to the original author(s) and the initial publication source in ILaLiS.

2. Self-Archiving Policy (Repository/Post-Print Policy)

Authors are permitted and encouraged to post, share, and archive their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories, academic networks like ResearchGate/Academia.edu, or personal websites) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges and earlier/greater citation of published work.

3. Copyright Infringement & Third-Party Material

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that their submission is original and does not infringe upon any existing copyright or third-party rights. Any use of copyrighted materials (e.g., figures, complex tables, images, or extensive textual excerpts) must be properly acknowledged, cited, and accompanied by formal written permissions from the copyright holder where required.

4. Author Warranties & Declarations

By agreeing to this notice, authors confirm and warrant that:

  • The manuscript is an original work and has not been published elsewhere, nor is it currently under consideration by any other publication outlet.

  • All listed co-authors have reviewed, approved, and agreed to the submission and to the terms of this Copyright Notice.

  • Proper acknowledgment and citation have been made for all secondary data, literature, financial grants, and supporting agencies.

  • The work contains no unlawful, libelous, or plagiarized statements.

Authors are required to accept and agree to this Copyright Notice as an obligatory part of the online submission process.

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
